A cheaper fridge can cost more to keep
Compare usable capacity, annual kWh and the delivered price before paying for a higher energy rating.

The short answer
Shortlist fridges that fit your kitchen and food routine first. Then compare their energy labels on the same basis—not just the number of ticks.
Read the label for the exact model
Singapore’s NEA Energy Label includes model information and energy-use figures. Its annual cost is calculated using stated assumptions; it is not a forecast of your own bill. Photograph the label and model number together so a shop display cannot be confused with a different size in the same range.
Measure the installation space and consult the manufacturer’s required clearances. A fridge that fits the recess but cannot open its door properly may leave drawers unusable. Capacity you cannot reach is not useful capacity.
Price the difference, not the promise
For an illustrative comparison, suppose two suitable models differ by S$180 upfront and their labels differ by 90 kWh a year. At an assumed S$0.30 per kWh, the energy difference is S$27 annually, giving a simple payback of about 6.7 years. These are invented inputs, not a Singapore tariff quote or product test.
That calculation ignores changing tariffs, repairs, financing and variations in use. Use it to see whether an upgrade deserves consideration, not to promise savings. If you expect to move soon, access and resale practicalities may matter more than a distant payback.
Ask for an installed total
Request separate prices for delivery, any access surcharge and removal of the old appliance. Check which party handles installation and what happens if the unit cannot be delivered through the doorway. Do not assume an online “free delivery” banner includes every service.
Keep the final quote, exact model and warranty terms together. Buying the smallest fridge that comfortably meets your real routine can be more sensible than buying a larger model merely because its label looks impressive. This is a comparison method, not a recommendation of a particular brand.
