The short answer

Compare the same period and the same needs. A year of charges tells you more than the first month’s discount, but only if you include the parts you will actually pay.

Start with your usage

Look at your recent bills before reading the biggest data allowance in an advertisement. Write down the local data you normally use, whether voice calls matter, and any travel destinations you actually expect to visit. Keep unusual one-off usage separate from your normal month.

A larger allowance is not automatically better value if you will not use it. Equally, choosing too little can change the cost if you need recurring add-ons. This guide does not test coverage or rank Singapore’s networks; check the service where you live and work through evidence relevant to those places.

Write down the full year

Our suggested comparison is: introductory monthly charges + later monthly charges + one-off fees + extras you will keep − discounts you actually qualify for. Use the same number of months for both offers. Keep any current-plan exit cost separate so the cost of switching is visible.

An invented example shows why the period matters. Offer A costs S$18 for three months, then S$28 for nine: S$306 for the year. Offer B costs S$25 for all twelve months: S$300. A looks cheaper at the start but is S$6 more over the year, before any other charges. These are teaching figures, not available plans or quotations.

Compare your two phone plans

Use your own quotes. The figures below are examples, not current offers. Use a blended monthly cost if a promotional rate changes.

Total = monthly cost × months + one-off fees. Add cancellation costs and taxes to your inputs where relevant.

A lower total only helps if both offers meet your needs. Check coverage, renewal prices and exit terms.

Read beyond the headline

Singtel’s published SIM Only terms illustrate why the exact plan matters: the listed plans have different minimum subscription periods, and the Enhanced Lite caller-ID benefit is listed as free for twelve months before a monthly charge applies. The same terms also describe early-termination charges within the minimum period. This is not a claim that every Singtel offer or every operator follows the same rules.

Treat each plan page and its linked terms as a pair. A search snippet or a promotion banner may not contain the conditions for your signup, port-in or renewal. Where the two appear inconsistent, ask the provider to confirm the exact offer in writing before committing.

Check these conditions

  • When does each introductory price or included benefit end, and what is charged next?
  • Are registration, SIM, delivery or other one-off charges included or waived for your exact signup?
  • Do roaming benefits cover the destinations and usage you need, with what validity and fair-use limits?
  • Are extras optional, and do any renew automatically after a trial?
  • What minimum period, notice requirement or outstanding device balance applies if you leave?

Make a deliberate choice

Keep the quote, the linked terms, and the date you checked them alongside your comparison. Calendar reminders for benefit expiry are useful only after you know the correct date and cancellation method; they are not a substitute for reading the agreement.

Choose a plan when its total cost and conditions fit your usage, not because it has the largest number on the page. We have not completed a current cross-provider price comparison and do not label any plan the cheapest. No provider pays for inclusion in this edition.
